In the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 1:27 a.m. on Monday, November 13. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun conjunct (0°) at 20°43’ of Scorpio. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 20°43’ of Scorpio in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence. (NOTE: Click here to learn how to find the transiting Moon in your chart.)
Although there is much that could be discussed, I am going to intentionally keep this Moon Update as brief as possible. I know we are all very busy, and I want to increase the chance that this Update will be read.
As usual, New Moons always provide us with an opportunity for a new emotional start in the areas associated with the sign. This time, we are focused on Scorpio:
- The higher expression of this sign includes being intense, passionate, determined, using investigative approaches, and the potential for transformation and healing.
- The lower expression can lead to being intolerant, overly secretive, and even jealous.
This Scorpio New Moon continues the intensity of the Taurus Full Moon & Lunar Eclipse that was discussed two weeks ago. Unfortunately, it may amplify the potentially volatile energies. In a nutshell, here’s why:
- The Sun and Moon are in exact conjunctions (0°) to the warrior planet Mars, all of which are in passionate, intense Scorpio.
- The Sun, Moon, and Mars are all in exact oppositions (180°) to the planet of disruption Uranus, which is located in stubborn Taurus.
Most of these aspects will be impacting us throughout the month of November. I don’t mean to instill fear, but this is likely to be a very challenging time for many of us. At the very least, this is likely to be a tumultuous time. There is likely going to be a great deal of tension around and probably within us. If not handled in a conscious manner, this pressure could be expressed in unconscious and potentially destructive ways.
With the Sun, the Moon, and Mars all in very tight and therefore very powerfully oppositions (180°) to Uranus, whatever happens could occur due to unexpected and unpredictable events. This is one of those times when we are all well advised to “expect the unexpected.” This planet’s primary purpose is to disrupt the status quo and shake thing up so that new things can come into our lives.
Given Uranus is located in Taurus, this could mean that one or more of the “foundations” in our life needs to change. This could include topics such as our home, work life, or finances. Uranus is also known for bringing into acute focus anything that is interfering with our sense of freedom, both individually and on a societal level. If we feel that there is something restricting our individual right to choose how we think, what we do, how we feel, etc., then rebellion is possible.
Unfortunately, Taurus is a fixed sign. The bull prefers to stay in its familiar pasture and it, therefore, often is resistant to changes. Uranus, on the other hand, is all about change. It’s important to remember that (a) Uranus is usually only problematic when we resist its energy and (b) whatever is coming may actually be better than we could possibly imagine!
As I said in the last Moon Update, I firmly believe that astrology only indicates possibilities and potentialities. No matter what happens, we all have free will choice about how we react to the energies and events. This is one of those times when we each need to take personal control over our experience. I know this is easier said than done when we are being inundated with powerful, tense, unpredictable energy that seems to be coming at us from all sides.
This is why I thought I would provide some ideas about how to manage these energies:
- BREATHE! Uranus is associated with our nervous system. It often jangles our nerves and leaves us feeling overly stimulated and jittery. Engaging in deep belly breaths will help calm down our nervous system.
- Exercise can also help discharge some of the energy. However, with powerhouse Mars involved, we could either be too aggressive in our exercise regime or simply overdo it. Moderation is key here.
- Scorpio is an intensely emotional water sign. We need to monitor our moods carefully. If we notice ourselves moving in a negative direction, we shouldn’t ignore this. Use how we are feeling as a signal that something needs our attention. Scorpio can help us psychologically analyze what is going on and then take necessary action(s) to move in a better direction. This could include finally making that call to set up an appointment with a therapist or life coach. Or it might be that we just need to go for a walk in nature or get an overdue massage.
- It may be important to adjust our self-talk. For example, some of us might need to remind ourselves that we DO have control over how we react to events in our lives. We may also benefit from focusing on being grateful for our blessings. This inner dialogue should definitely include reminders that we have the strength, persistence, and inner stamina to move toward our personal goals, because Mars provides us with ample energy to do that! It may also help to remember that most of us have been through similar challenging times and survived. We’ve got this!
- Another important step in self-care is to monitor how we are spending our time and where we are placing our attention. This may require making some necessary adjustments (e.g., decreasing participation in certain activities or relationships, reducing time spent watching the news).
- Although many of us would love to be able to change the world (especially right now), I think we all know that this isn’t feasible. However, we can consciously choose to act from a place of personal integrity. We may not be able to stop global warming or create world peace, but we can choose our behaviors on a day-to-day and moment-to-moment basis within our personal relationships, work settings, etc. This is personal power at its best!
- Because Mars is in a sweet sextile (60°) to Pluto at the time of this Scorpio New Moon, this means that we have support for directing some of our personal power toward eliminating whatever is no longer serving us. Remember that the field of feng shui reminds us that purging the old makes room for the new. We can use some of Mars’s energy to do some needed cleansing of our space. However, don’t forget that this may also include outdated relationships, ideas, beliefs, etc.
- Here is a goal that may help: Make life adjustments that bring more peace into our life. Achieving more happiness may be too big a stretch, but peace in this moment may feel more attainable. For some of us, this may require making a pretty big change. However, even small adjustments can sometimes have a profound impact.
Finally, one of the best pieces of advice I can provide is based on the Sun, the Moon, and Mars all being in supportive trines (120°) to Neptune, which is powerfully located in its home sign of Pisces. If we can use the techniques mentioned above to calm down our nervous systems, focus our energy and attention in positive ways, and detach from the “realities” of the world around us, then we have the potential to tap into the spirituality, compassion, and creativity of Neptune. This could include receiving some much-needed Divine guidance. We may also feel an increased concern for others and have a desire to serve in a constructive way.
However, be aware that even though trines are very positive aspects, it can mean that the energy flows too easily and strongly between the planets that are involved. In this case, Neptune’s strong influence could potentially bring in feelings of victimization, especially if we are hyper-focused on external events. Or some of us could fall into co-dependent behaviors that aren’t healthy for either party. If this happens, this would be a good time to use one or more of the techniques mentioned above so we can gain better access to the highest possible expression of Neptune’s spiritual energy.
Be particularly mindful around Saturday, November 18. In addition to this being the day when the conjunction (0°) between the Sun and Mars will be exact, it is also when the Moon will be exactly conjunct (0°) Pluto. The Sun-Mars conjunct will increase our felt need to act, but it can also bring out anger, impulsivity, and even aggressiveness. Unfortunately, the Moon-Pluto conjunct happening at the same time can bring in intensely powerful feelings that could trigger unconscious memories. Put these two events together, and there is the potential for acting out in destructive ways.
On Wednesday, November 22, the Sun leaves intense Scorpio and begins its month-long transit of Sagittarius. Even though difficult personal and societal issue will still be present, this movement into Sag can usher in a more positive perspective and even optimism. Our personal and spiritual development becomes more important. We may feel motivated to take a class of some kind, and the course content will be particularly powerful if it helps us increase our understanding and awareness of the world around us. But we should be careful not to push our beliefs on someone else. Sag can get self-righteous, and we need to remember that everyone has a right to their own opinions.
Overall, this Scorpio New Moon could be a very significant time for us personally and collectively. Much is changing, and we need to allow new energy to flow into our lives. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, and both of these have to do with the use of power. We need to surrender and release our need to control what is happening externally, and, instead, use our personal power and free will choice to control ourselves (e.g., our thoughts, our feelings). This may not be easy, especially given Uranus is often associated with unexpected and even shocking events. But all of this is meant to bring new energy into our lives, which could even lead to a fresh new start that could be very meaningful and rewarding.
