NOTE: This Moon Update will be relatively brief. We are in the middle of revamping the website, so stay tuned! Time is precious right now, but I did want to get you a little information about the upcoming (and very exciting) New Moon.
In the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 3:37 a.m. on Friday, August 30. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 7° of Virgo. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 7° of Virgo in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.
New Moons always provide us with opportunities for new emotional starts and setting new intentions in the areas associated with the sign. This time, we are focused on the sign of Virgo; however, this is definitely not your typical Virgo New Moon. I am going to veer from my usual objective approach and start by sharing that I am so excited about this New Moon! It couldn’t be coming at a better time for me.
With this New Moon, not only are the Sun and Moon in Virgo, but so too are Mercury, Venus, and Mars. This means that all five of what are referred to as the “personal planets” are in Virgo. They are close enough to each other to form what is called a stellium, which is a group of planets in conjunction (0°). With stelliums, the planets are no longer working independently but are functioning together as a unit. Without going into a great deal of detail (which my Virgo Ascendant would actually love to do!), Mars is in an exact conjunction to the New Moon (exactly 1°). That means we have energy, courage, and oh, did I say energy?! The presence of Mercury means that we will be thinking analytically and will want to communicate clearly and efficiently. Venus will help soften all this energy a bit by bringing in the heart energy, but it also has us focusing some of this Virgo energy on our relationships and finances.
With so much Virgo energy swirling around us, we definitely need to be very cognizant of both the higher and lower expressions of this mutable earth sign. We need to use our free will to choose the highest expression possible so we can get the most out of this incredibly powerful time. The higher expression of Virgo includes being efficient, productive, practical, analytical, and organized. The lower expression can result in being “perfectionistic” and critical of ourselves or others. It’s okay to have high standards, but seeking perfection (of ourselves or others) isn’t realistic given very few things in life are ever perfect. Additionally, Virgo, is also about health. This would be an excellent time to “clean up” our bodies and/or our diet, but we need to do it in practical ways.
How do we help ourselves avoid the lower expression of Virgo’s energy and reap the benefits of the higher expression? Focus on the other important qualities of Virgo, which are humility and a strong desire to serve without needing recognition or applause. If we find ourselves starting to be critical, then take a moment (or two), and think about how we can shift our energy toward being productive and serving a greater purpose. This shift in attention will very likely result in the melting away of those self- or other-directed critical thoughts (or words).
But all of this Virgo energy is not our only cosmic gift right now. That stellium in Virgo is also part of an earth grand trine (i.e., equilateral triangle)! The other 2 corners of the triangle are Uranus in Taurus and Saturn in Capricorn, which is still conjunct (0°) Pluto and the South Node. That means we have 7 planets and the South Node in Earth signs. An earth grand trine is, frankly, a wonderful thing if you want to get a LOT done. The grand trine provides a free-flowing, supportive energy. The earth energy is about being practical, responsible, reliable, productive, and grounded.
The presence of Saturn and Uranus in this earth grand trine is an interesting influence. Saturn wants to approach things in a traditional way, while Uranus wants to shake things up and do something new, unique, and possibly revolutionary. We do need to avoid getting bogged down in the Capricorn’s desire to hold onto the old ways, because Uranus is saying that the future will require change. But we can’t ignore the needs of Saturn, either. Given these two planets are in a trine relationship, this is a good time to find a way to meet both needs. For example, we might receive practical but unexpected insights regarding how to do something, and the outcome might be even better if we incorporate some tried-and-true approaches or knowledge we have gained from the past. Uranus also has to do with technology, so we may be exposed to a new technology that serves us in a practical way.
It is also important to note that the New Moon, Mars, and Venus are all squaring (90°) Jupiter. Squares indicate that a change in direction is needed. This square could add a sense of restlessness and a desire to get more out of life. Or we could be feeling a need to fight for our beliefs or values. We do need to be careful not to exaggerate, overdo, or overpromise. Patience will be important now, and all the earth energy at this time will help with that. However, the involvement of the largest planet in our solar system will definitely provide even more power to this already incredible time period.
Overall, this Virgo New Moon is a time when we should all focus on being very productive and efficient. Our focus should be on things that have a practical purpose. If we find ourselves becoming critical of ourselves or others, we are advised to become productive and focus on heart-centered service. The energy available to use between now and mid-September is a huge gift. We should organize as many things as we can. This would be a great time to dive into that major project that we know we need to complete especially if attention to detail is required. In short, get to work!
