NEW MOON IN SCORPIO – Although the energy is still intense and unpredictable, there is support for cooperation and compassion (November 4, 2021)

AstrologyIn the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 2:14 p.m. on Thursday, November 4.  This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun conjunct (0°) at 13° of Scorpio.  To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 13° of Scorpio in your birth/natal chart.  The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.

New Moons always provide us with an opportunity for a new emotional start in the areas associated with the sign.  This time, we are focused on Scorpio.  The higher expression of this sign includes being intense, deep, determined, investigating, transforming, passionate, and healing.  The lower expression can include being over-bearing, intolerant, secretive, or jealous.

Scorpio is not satisfied with anything superficial.  Like its symbol the scorpion, it wants to dig into the darkness to explore what is usually hidden below the surface.  However, this is an astrological sign that has many sides to it.  Its motivation for digging deep is to bring to the surface whatever needs to be healed.  If this is done, then Scorpio can be transformative.  For example, the eagle (or dove) is another symbol that is attributed to this sign.  If healing occurs, then it frees us to fly above the ground and thereby gain the perspective we need in order to apply the wisdom learned during the healing process.  Ultimately, the goal is to heal to the point where we become the phoenix, which undergoes the ultimate transformation of bursting into flames and being reborn.

In addition to the Sun and Moon, Mars is also located in Scorpio.  The red planet is actually in a wide conjunct (0°) to the New Moon.  It is still providing us with additional energy, courage, and motivation to take action.  Given the keywords for Scorpio include intensity and passion, this could mean that we feel energized (Mars) to intensely pursue whatever we are passionate about (Scorpio).  And with Mars adding so much energy in Scorpio around the time of the New Moon, there is potential for great healing and for even starting a new part of our spiritual journey.

In addition to its wide conjunct (0°) to the New Moon, Mars is also in a conjunct (0°) to Mercury in Libra.  This will help us think through our actions and energetically communicate our passions to others.  Our minds will definitely be active; the only question is how we will use all this mental energy.  The higher expression would be to have an active, clear mind that courageously looks at whatever Scorpio is discovering below the surface that needs to be brought up into the light for healing.  The lower expression can include being irritable, argumentative, or impulsive in our words or actions.

But if used effectively, this Mercury-Mars conjunction (0°) can also provide us with the courage to look at what we are saying to ourselves that might be fueling any strong negative emotions.  By becoming aware of any dysfunctional thought patterns, we have the opportunity to change them so they are more aligned with our personal truth and goals.  This is a good time to remember to access the Law of Attraction and shift our focus toward what we want and away from what we don’t want.

Additionally, given Mercury is in a square (90°) to Pluto, this is a time when any changes in our thoughts can be transformative and healing.  However, we just need to be aware that this square could cause us to feel more argumentative than usual.  We need to consciously choose the high road, take a deep breath, and give ourselves a time out if/when needed.

The conjunct (0°) between Mercury and Mars can also cause us to feel as if our nervous system is over-stimulated.  Those of us who are sensitive to energy may feel as if our finger has been placed into a light socket.  This is even more likely because the New Moon is in an exact opposition (180°) to Uranus in Taurus (i.e., an orb of only 7 minutes).  Although startling, the extra stimulation has an important purpose.  It is meant to wake us up and motivate us to look at where we need more freedom in our lives.

However, the powerful presence of Uranus increases the likelihood of sudden or unexpected events being the catalyst for any changes.  As is true whenever Uranus is involved, it’s important to not resist these changes and to remain as open as possible to trying something new.  If we begin to feel overstimulated, it may help to remember that Uranus is located in Taurus.  We can use our bodies to discharge some of that energy by focusing on activities that ground us and/or access our five senses (e.g., exercise, get a massage, go for a walk in nature).

But there’s more!  Both ends of this very tight opposition (180°) between the New Moon and Uranus are squaring (90°) Saturn in Aquarius.  The squares and opposition forms one of the t-squares (i.e., right triangles) that we often talk about.  T-squares demand change, and this will be hard to avoid.

Luckily, this time Saturn is the “focal planet” of the t-square (i.e., the planet being squared).  This may actually help us cope with all that high level energy that we just discussed.  As a reminder, the focal planet provides guidance regarding how to best find a balance between the planets that are in opposition (i.e., Sun/Moon and Uranus).  Although Uranus may bring sudden changes, Saturn is recommending that we take our time making any decisions.  Saturn tendency is to slow down, adhere to rules/boundaries, and only take responsible actions if they are based on realistic assessments.  Therefore, Saturn will likely temper any tendency toward impulsive actions or reactions, which is a very good thing during this highly energized time!  Additionally, with Saturn in this focal position, this also means that any changes that are catalyzed by the t-square will very likely be long-lasting and may involve substantive alterations to one or more structures in our lives.

Luckily, several supportive aspects will aid us in navigating the New Moon, especially when it comes to our interactions with important people in our lives:

  • The Scorpio New Moon is in a wide trine (120°) to Neptune. Trines are very supportive aspects, so we will likely be able to access the higher expression of Neptune’s energy, which includes creativity, spirituality, intuitive abilities, and compassion.  Given the high-voltage energy associated with the New Moon, Neptune can provide all of us with some soothing energy that will likely be very welcome.  We may be able to be more compassionate and empathic with those around us, and it can help us tap into our spirituality and creativity, which can assist us with problem solving.
  • There is another supportive trine (120°) between Mercury and Jupiter. This can help us think about the big picture and to think about how we can work more cooperatively with others in fair and ethical ways.  This aspect can also support us in using the Law of Attraction to focus on positive thoughts because it enhances our ability to be optimistic.
  • Mercury is also in a sweet sextile (60°) to Venus. This can enhance our ability to make social connections of any kind by supporting us in being diplomatic, charming, and willing to work with others toward a common goal.  We may also find that we are ready to have important conversations with those we care about.

The day after the New Moon (Friday, November 5), Venus will move into Capricorn.  Because Venus will go retrograde in Capricorn, it will be in this sign an unusually long time (until March 7, 2022).  In general, Venus in Cap is a time when we become more focused on and serious about our relationships and finances.  It usually is a positive time to work cooperatively and creatively, especially within business partners but this can extend to romantic partnerships.  Within all of our relationships, conversations may be more serious than usual, and they may have long-term consequences.  We desire to have all of our connections with others be reliable and grounded in reality.  However, beginning in December, we will be talking much more about Venus in Capricorn because (a) its retrograde phase will bring very important energy into our lives and (b) Venus will be making a series of connections with Pluto, resulting in all of us needing to manage very intense and powerful energy.

On the same day (Friday, November 5), Mercury will dive into the deep waters of Scorpio for a 3-week stay (until November 25).  When combined with Venus in Capricorn (see paragraph above), those serious conversations about our feelings and finances could be intense.  Mercury in Scorpio wants to uncover anything hidden, and it will dig deep to uncover the truth.  Profound insights are possible.  Our minds are often very sharp and analytical, but we can become overly focused on our goal or even be obsessed.  But given Mercury is no longer in retrograde, we may be able to express some of the emotional issues that have been lingering below the surface.

Overall, this Scorpio New Moon is continuing the themes we’ve recently been discussing.  We are going through an intense period of change and transformation, which can leave us feeling pretty rattled at times.  We need to remember to breathe, ground ourselves, and take time out to feed our bodies and souls.  The energy of Scorpio is telling us that there are issues that need to be explored and brought into the light so they can be healed.  This is often not an easy process, but it is designed to help our souls learn, grow, heal, and transform.  Although the influence of Saturn may slow down the process a bit, it’s important to not resist changes, especially if they increase our sense of freedom and independence.
