In the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 8:11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 9° of Leo. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 9° of Leo in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.
New Moons always provide us with opportunities for new emotional starts and setting new intentions in the areas associated with the sign. This time, we are focused on the sign of Leo. The higher expression of this fixed fire sign includes being self-confident, big hearted, loving, and a leader. The lower expression can result in us seeking too much attention, being overly dramatic, or even being self-centered. This is a good time to be courageous and face our fears and/or identify where we may be coming from an ego-based position and need, instead of moving towards a heart-centered approach.
The New Moon occurs on the same day that Mercury ends its retrograde phase and begins moving direct again. Many people have shared with me that this Mercury retrograde period has been pretty intense for them, and it certainly has been for me! As the next few days unfold, we should feel increasingly ready to have those conversations with others that we’ve been thinking about having. Although they can happen in any sector of our lives, Mercury has back-tracked into Cancer, which means family (or those we define as family) may be who we need to chat with. But remember, with Mercury in Cancer, that means our interactions need to be nurturing and sympathetic.
As is true with all New Moons, we may feel ready to start something new. Venus is conjunct (0°) the New Moon, which favors drawing to us whatever we most desire. Having Venus in Leo means that this could apply to anything that we want to create, especially if that creation expresses our unique gifts here on the Earth plane. This could come in the form of a new home, a new job, having children, or any creative project. It can even be the start of a new romance or financial endeavor. But whatever we feel drawn to initiate must come from a Leo, heart-centered place. And having some fun will be an added plus.
But with the Saturn/Pluto/South Node grouping still very active in Capricorn, we also need to make sure that we are taking responsibility for our actions, letting go of any old obligations that no longer serve us, and using our personal power effectively rather than forcefully. The strong Capricorn influence also means that we need to be committed for the long-haul with these projects. Although change can happen rapidly at times, these creative endeavors are likely not the type that will find resolution overnight. Capricorn brings with it a willingness to work hard to create something solid in our lives.
Change is also indicated by a square (90°) between the New Moon/Venus grouping in Leo and Uranus. Unexpected events may come up, and this may not be the best time to make any financial decisions. Expect the unexpected, and look for how something that interferes with our plans might actually be spiritually orchestrated to get us to try something new, see a different approach, or even go in an entirely new direction. Also, we need to remember that Uranus also demands that we maintain our sense of freedom. Anything that bogs us down, pins us in, or clips our wings will not be easily tolerated right now.
There is some potentially volatile energy swirling around us between now and the middle of the month. Not only is the Sun in Leo, but so, too, is Mars. With this combo pack of Leo energy, the lion is likely to roar if its pride is wounded. And having Mars in Leo means that resulting roar could come with a lot of dramatic energy behind it. Many people might be feeling like they need to “tread softly” with those around them right now. That’s because we all should! But also remember that if someone does become offended, we can apologize if we did something inadvertently to hurt them. An authentic “I’m sorry” can go a long way toward soothing Leo the Lion’s ruffled mane.
At the time of the New Moon, Mars is also part of a yod planetary configuration, which is an elongated isosceles triangle with Saturn and Neptune on the other corners. In a nutshell, this, too, could bring out power struggles, so it behooves us to be careful interpersonally. It also tells us that compromises may be hard to come by. Instead, we may just need to make some difficult adjustments that don’t always feel “fair.” However, having Saturn involved means that we will be able to take responsibility for our actions, and we can also trust our intuition to guide the way due to Neptune’s presence.
Additionally, it is also important to remember that we are all here to help each other heal. Any difficult interactions may be a healing experience for both parties due to a wonderful trine (120°) between the New Moon/Venus and Chiron. When Chiron is involved, we may feel initially vulnerable or wounded, but the trine suggest that we will be able to sort out what is happening and even provide insights into how to resolve it. Having Venus involved means that we have a chance to heal our relationships and build trust. But again, we must do this from an ego-less, heart-centered Leo perspective in order for it to be effective during this New Moon’s influence.
Overall, one of the keywords that we can all use during this Leo New Moon is patience. I know, I know . . . I call it “The P-Word.” Patience is hard for many of us, but it will be need now or we could hear some very dramatic roars from those around us (or from ourselves!). There are quite a few indicators that this could be a challenging time when unexpected events and changes will come up, particularly in the areas of our relationships and even our finances. We do need to be careful not to ruffle any feathers (or Leo manes) right now, but the Leo energy also brings in creativity, fun, and heart-focused desires and choices. This is a great time to make a commitment to use your unique energy to create something special in the world that comes from a place of love.
