Astrology-New-Moon-Full-MoonIn the Pacific Time Zone, the Moon will be full at 12:12 p.m. on Friday, June 5.  With this Full Moon, the Sun in Gemini will be in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Sagittarius.  To further clarify how this Full Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 16° of Gemini and 16° of Sagittarius in your birth/natal chart.  The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most impacted by this Full Moon’s presence.

With all Full Moons, we are being asked to evaluate whether or not we are effectively balancing two seemingly opposite areas of our lives.  With this Sagittarius Full Moon, we need to look at the balance between Gemini and Sagittarius:

  • The Sun is in Gemini: The Sun represents our basic identity.  The higher expression of this sign includes being communicative, curious, and flexible.  The lower expression, though, can include being indecisive, scattered, impatient, and a bit too talkative.
  • The Moon is in Sagittarius: The Moon represents our emotions and daily habits.  The higher expression of Sag includes being generous, adventurous, optimistic, and ethical.  The lower expression can include being tactless, pushy, and self-indulgent.

Our goal is to achieve a new or more effective balance between the two signs (and houses) involved, but we have to work at doing this because a Full Moon often means that the lower expression of each sign is more likely to be expressed than the higher expression.

This Sagittarius Full Moon involves more than just the opposition (180°) between the Sun and the Moon.  The Sun is conjunct (0°) Venus, and Sun-Venus and the Moon are all squaring (90°) a conjunct between Mars and Neptune in Pisces.  This forms a powerful t-square configuration (right triangle) in mutable signs.  T-squares always demand our attention.  The pull of Pisces is to lose ourselves in our personal beliefs.  By squaring this Full Moon, we are being asked to take a step back, gather more data, consider the facts, and be objective.  Most of us prefer to listen for facts that confirm our beliefs, and this Full Moon is imploring us to consciously watch for times when we are seeing life through our personal biases or filters.  Just because we want something to be true doesn’t mean that there’s not another perspective that might help us see things more clearly.

However, even beyond this t-square, this isn’t an ordinary Sag Full Moon.  It’s also the first in a series of 3 eclipses.  Usually eclipses occur in pairs, so the fact that we have three in a row is a pretty big deal.  Eclipses occur twice each year, and they often signal “wake-up” calls regarding what needs to change in our lives and as a collective community.

This first event is a Lunar Eclipse, and these lunar events often coincide with times of endings, purging, and/or culminations.  They help us see what is no longer working in our lives or in society.  Although what catalyzes a change can occur quite suddenly, it is believed that eclipses impact the six months that occur in between each eclipse season.  Additionally, given we will have a Solar eclipse in 2 weeks (on June 20) and another Lunar Eclipse in 4 weeks (on July 4), it could be that whatever occurs now provides an emotional wake-up call that increase our awareness regarding an impending change that will become clearer over the coming weeks.

Regardless, anytime there is an eclipse, it is like the New or Full Moon is on steroids.   Given this Full Moon involves the mutable signs of Gemini and Sagittarius, we need to use this energy to be flexible and adaptable.  Although it may not be easy to do this, there are so many indications that we all really need to listen to all sides of a situation.  This includes trying to understand the needs, values, and concerns of others, and also our own.  This may require that both sides take on the role of diplomats, but this is what will help create harmonious relationships and aid us in seeing a clearer path forward.

At the time of the Full Moon, Mercury is sextile (60°) Uranus but also in a square (90°) to Chiron.  We are being encouraged to work collaboratively.  Unexpected advances are possible because intuition is high due to Uranus being involved and both Mars and Neptune currently being located in Pisces.  We may find solutions come “out of the blue,” or we might just see everything in a new way that leads to creative solutions.  But this may require facing some painful truths.  We need to remember that the goal with an eclipse is always to help our soul continue on its evolutionary journey.  Change often involves making decisions, and these choices are not always easy ones.  It will be very important to intuitively listen to our soul’s desires.

Additionally, Mercury is in Cancer, so we may have a hard time separating our thoughts from our emotions.  But this placement of Mercury can help us think through our own emotions or help us help others sort through theirs.  A sweet sextile (60°) between the Sun-Venus conjunct and Chiron provides us with increased confidence, clarity regarding what is getting in our way, and support for solving problems and healing insecurities.

On Friday, June 12, the conjunct (0°) between Mars and Neptune will be exact.  For a few days around this event, we may feel oddly moved to take action, but also confused and unsure about what to do.  We could also feel simultaneously more relaxed but also increasingly distracted.  Our intuition is in charge right now.  This can provide support for any creative endeavors, but it isn’t great for productivity or following a set routine.  It may be best to just take a “chill pill” and let your intuition tell you which activity will bring you the most joy.

Overall, it’s likely we will all be very aware of this Full Moon in Sagittarius and the Lunar Eclipse.  Full Moons and Lunar Eclipses tend to be emotional times, and with the squares to Mars and Neptune in Pisces, we need to use this energy to help clarify our dreams.  But it is best to avoid taking immediate action, if possible.  With this being the first of three eclipses in a row and given the next one is pretty profound (more on that in the next Moon Update), we have time to make decisions and clarify where we are headed.  But we can be assured that we are headed in a new direction that is helping us to individually and collectively move to the next level.  Luckily the Moon in Sag is often associated with optimistically thinking about the future.  I think everyone would agree that we could all use some hope right now.  Enjoy the dreaming that comes with the Sag Full Moon, and feel free to “dream big”!  However, realize that more will likely be revealed and that the “right” answers will become clearer as time passes.
