FULL MOON IN LEO – In some way, this is likely to be a pivotal moment (February 16, 2022)

AstrologyIn the Pacific Time Zone, the Moon will be full at 8:57 a.m. on Wednesday, February 16.  With this Full Moon, the Sun in Aquarius will be in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Leo.  To further clarify how this Full Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 28° of Aquarius and 28° of Leo in your birth/natal chart.  The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most impacted by this Full Moon’s presence.

All Full Moons involve finding a better balance between the two signs involved.  This time, those signs are Aquarius and Leo:

  • The best qualities of Aquarius include being independent, inventive, humanistic, social, tolerant, and intuitive. The lower expression can involve being rebellious, eccentric, stubborn, and feeling overly responsible for everything and everyone.
  • The higher expression of Leo includes being self-confident, big hearted, loving, loyal, and a good leader. The lower expression could mean being overly dramatic, seeking attention, or being self-centered or arrogant.

I always like to think of the annual Leo Full Moon as an opportunity to access our unique gifts (Leo) and shine (Sun) them out into the world around us (Aquarius).  Leo is associated with the heart chakra, so sharing our gifts shouldn’t be motivated by a need to receive acknowledgement, which is a lower expression of Leo’s energy.  Our gifts will be much more powerful if they are coming from a place of unconditional love.  Luckily, this heart-centered approach dovetails beautifully with the Aquarian focus on humanitarianism and giving to others.

However, this Full Moon is rare.  Of course, a Full Moon occurs when the Sun and the Moon are in opposition (180°) to each other.  But with this Full Moon, the Sun and Moon are squaring (90°) the North and South Nodes, which are always in opposition (180°).  This means that the Sun and the Moon are square (90°) to each of the Nodes, which forms what is called a grand cross or grand square configuration.

A grand cross configuration tells us that (a) change (4 squares) is needed and (b) we need to make sure to maintain a balance between what may feel like opposing needs (2 oppositions).   Given the Full Moon and the Nodal Axis are part of this grand square configuration, many astrologers believe that this is activating Karmic energy.  It definitely means that elements of the past (and possibly past lives) must be explored and possibly utilized (South Node) in order to effectively move into the next phase of our spiritual journey (North Node).  This may best be described as some type of “pivotal moment” in our personal or collective lives . . . or both.

Given this grand cross involves a Leo Full Moon, it’s likely we are being asked to examine and make changes related to issues such as our self-confidence and our willingness to assume a leadership role or serve as a role model.  This is a good time to ask ourselves if we are hiding due to a fear of being seen for who we truly are or are we courageously shining our light by sharing our gifts with the world around us.

It is fairly common for those of us in the metaphysical field to be afraid of retribution if we share our spiritual gifts with the world.  This often ties back to past lives in which we were persecuted, tortured, or killed for our beliefs or spiritual practices.  Although we may not remember the specifics, the fear is stored in our soul’s memory.

Many of us specifically chose to came to the Earth plane at this time in humanity’s history in order to heal those past life experiences.  However, in order to heal, we need to face our fears and share our gifts.  Only then will we have a “corrective emotional experience” in which our gifts can be safely shared and even celebrated.  If we don’t consciously choose to do this, then we are not living out our life script and our soul loses a chance to evolve.  We also miss the opportunity to be a source of unconditional love or serve as a good role model of healthy leadership abilities.

Of course, we definitely don’t want to do any of this with a sense of entitlement, arrogance, or need for acknowledgement.  This would align with the lower expressions of Leo’s energy.  Instead, we want to share our gifts from a humble, loving place, which is a beautiful way to honor the heart chakra’s energy associated with the higher expression of Leo.  This also increases that chances that those around us will be receptive to what we have to share, and this is how we will heal and move beyond those past life experiences.

At the time of the Full Moon, several aspects are important to take into consideration:

  • Venus and Mars will be in an exact conjunct (0°) in Capricorn. They will actually be moving within 1° of each other between February 11 through March 12.  During this time, relationships of all kinds will be important, but especially loving, affectionate partnerships.  Given this conjunction is occurring in Capricorn, this is a time when we will likely be taking a serious look at our relationships.  We may be exploring whether we are ready to make or break a commitment to another person.  Cap is telling us it’s time to make a decision one way or another.  It may also be important to explore whether we are being overly responsible or possibly shirking our responsibilities.
  • Venus and Mars are both trining (120°) Uranus. Trines are very supportive, so this means that making any needed changes (Uranus) to our relationships (Venus-Mars) will likely be easier than usual (trine).  Any changes made now may not feel as scary as we might have feared in the past.  We also will have the energy and courage needed to take interpersonal risks or try something new, which can lead to very positive changes.
  • However, even though there is support for making changes, it may not always be a comfortable process because both Venus and Mars are squaring (90°) Chiron. There may be times when we feel insecure or vulnerable, have a difficult time expressing our desires clearly, or feel defensive or resentful.  Another possibility is a felt need to rebel against the wishes of someone else, especially if we feel that person is blocking our sense of freedom or independence.  We all need to remain vigilant to these possible reactions.  If they emerge, the best course of action is to consciously choose a “time out.”  Take some time away from the relationship in order to explore what is being triggered and creating a sense of vulnerability.  This may be related to childhood wounding, and now is the time to heal.
  • During the time of the Full Moon, the Moon is in an awkward inconjunct (150°) to Pluto. It is likely that we will need to find a way to make emotional (Moon) adjustments (inconjunct) regarding Plutonian issues, such as transformation, healing, and the use of power versus force.  Some astrologers also believe that a Moon-Pluto aspect often reveals where we are only “pretending” to be happy (i.e., lying either to ourselves or to others).  By facing what we are truly feeling (Moon), we can then be truthful about what is really going on and make any necessary adjustments (inconjuncts).  And given that the Moon is squaring (90°) both Nodes, this provides reinforcement to the idea that we may need to look to the past (or even past lives) in order to find out which emotional issues might be hindering our movement into the future.  This is a good time to do this type of deep exploration because Pluto trines (120°) the North Node and sextiles (60°) the South Node.  This provides us with the strength and determination to do this type of inner search.  It will be well worth the effort!

For several days before and after the Full Moon, we will be experiencing the beautiful impact of an exact sextile (60°) between Jupiter and Uranus.  Many refer to this Jupiter-Uranus sextile as “lucky,” and it definitely can be.  However, sextiles are a very subtle aspect.  In order to benefit from them, we usually need to consciously choose to access the gifts provided.  This sextile’s gifts involve increased intuition, especially in areas where you can expand with enthusiasm and confidence.  This aspect may also increase our sense of optimism and/or help us find meaning in our lives.  All of this may come through unexpected opportunities that might be related to spiritual growth or creative endeavors.  But again, we probably have to get up off our proverbial butts and choose to take advantage of these unexpected events in order to make the magic happen.  And given Saturn is still in an ongoing square (90°) to Uranus, we are being advised that any changes we make will likely require tapping into the past in order to make progressive changes to the structures in our lives.

Other than the Sun moving out of Aquarius and into Pisces on Friday, February 18, no other planets are changing signs during the upcoming 2-week period.  However, many astrologers consider the month-long transit of the Sun through Pisces as an important culmination point of the year.  The beginning of the astrological year is believed to occur when the Sun moves into Aries (Sunday, March 20), which is referred to as the Equinox.  This is often a time when we begin new projects or plans for the next year.  The month before that when the Sun is in Pisces is when we often do a final review of what we have accomplished during the previous year and wrap up unfinished projects before the Equinox arrives.  Given this period of reflection occurs in the sign of Pisces, it’s a good time to focus on qualities such as compassion, forgiveness, releasing, and cleansing.

However, even though we do need to do some inner reflection and focus on completion, all of the planets in our solar system will be moving direct for the next two months (i.e., until the end of April).  Many of us can sense that something new is ready to emerge.  Actively participating in the Piscean work described in the last paragraph will facilitate this birthing process.  If you’ve been thinking about making some changes, the next two months will be a good time, but especially after the Equinox on March 20.  And with Mercury now located in Aquarius, we may be thinking more and more about the future.  We may also be more willing than usual to think outside the box and consider something that is innovative, especially if it will increase our feelings of independence and freedom.

Overall, any Full Moon in Leo is about expressing our unique gifts to the world.  This is a good time to let your inner lion roar.  It’s also a good time to give and receive love, play, have fun, create, and courageously put ourselves out there.  But remember that Leo is associated with the heart chakra, so we need to give from a loving heart and not from our ego (which is the lower expression of Leo’s energy).  However, this Leo Full Moon is rare in that it’s squaring the Nodal Axis.  We are at a turning point when we each need to look at what in our past is keeping us from truly expressing who we are and/or our purpose in the world.  In order to complete our spiritual journey, this is one of those times when we each need to “face the music” and possibly “grow up” or mature in some way.  This will likely result in changes within our relationships, and there is support for doing this right now, even though it may not always we comfortable.  Take the time needed to go inward, focus on completion, and come out the other side determined to bring your soul’s light into the world in new and wondrous ways.  Everyone will benefit, including you!
