In the Pacific Time Zone, the Moon will be full at 3:01 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8.  With this Full Moon, the Sun in Scorpio will be in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Taurus.  To further clarify how this Full Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 16⁰00’ of Scorpio and 16°00’ of Taurus in your birth/natal chart.  The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most impacted by this Full Moon’s presence.

All Full Moons involve finding a better balance between the qualities of the 2 signs involved.  This time, those signs are Scorpio and Taurus:

  • The best qualities of Scorpio include being intense, deep, determined, investigative, passionate, healing, and transformative.  The lower expression can involve being over-bearing, intolerant, secretive, or jealous.
  • The higher expression of Taurus includes being down-to-earth, responsible, resourceful, reliable, patient, and loyal.  The lower expression could mean being overly materialistic, too cautious, and resistant to change.

This already powerful Taurus Full Moon carries even more of an astrological “punch” because it is a total Lunar Eclipse.  There was a partial Solar Eclipse 2 weeks ago, and many of the same issues are repeated with this Lunar Eclipse.  Anytime there is an eclipse, the impact of the New or Full Moon is magnified.  Additionally, the occurrence of an eclipse means that whatever influences were present will be impacting us for the next six months.

There is much that could be said about this Full Moon and eclipse, but here’s a summary of what I believe are at least some of the most important issues:

  • Our sense of security (Taurus) is being challenged, and we will be required to dig deep into our psyches to help heal (Scorpio) whatever may be keeping us from flowing and adapting to the changes coming into our lives.  This will include looking at whether we try to control things when unexpected events come into our lives.  Do we have faith and trust that all will be well, or do we “circle the wagons” because we anticipate a battle?
  • At the time of this Full Moon, the Moon is in an exact conjunction (0⁰56’) with Uranus in Taurus.  They are both in oppositions (180⁰) to the Sun, Mercury and Venus in Scorpio.
  • Our sense of security (Taurus) is being challenged, and we will be required to dig deep into our psyches to heal (Scorpio) whatever may be keeping us from flowing and adapting to the changes coming into our lives.  This will include looking at whether we try to control things when unexpected events come into our lives.  Do we have faith and trust that all will be well, or do we “circle the wagons” and “dig in our heels” because we anticipate a battle?
  • At the time of this Full Moon, the Moon is in an exact conjunction (0⁰56’) with Uranus in Taurus.  They are both in oppositions (180⁰) to the Sun, Mercury and Venus in Scorpio.  Additionally, the Sun is exactly conjunct (0⁰09’) Mercury and also conjunct Venus (4⁰12’).  Given the incredibly strong influence of Uranus, changes are basically inevitable, both personally and globally.  On a personal level, this might include (a) changes in how we process our feelings or even our daily habits (Moon), (b) changes in how we think or communicate (Mercury), and (c) changes in what we desire, in our relationships, in our available resources, and even in our finances (Venus).
  • Uranus brings the unexpected, and that could bring good news or not-so-good news.  It is the planet associated with innovations and breakthroughs, which can bring a refreshing newness into our lives.  But it usually does this by breaking up any stagnant energy or impacting situations where we are stuck.  This often causes us to feel that there is an upheaval to the status quo, which can be unsettling.  Uranus often asks us to step out of our comfort zone and try something new.  Be aware, though, that it brings a lot of electric energy.  If we are feeling over-stimulated, it will help to engage in whatever activities will calm our nervous systems and get us re-grounded.
  • Additionally, the 5 planets mentioned above are conjunct (0⁰) either the North or South Node.  Often this means that something from our past may play an important role in our future goals.  This could take the form of working through a past issue that was never fully resolved or even having someone from our past come back into our lives in order to deal with some unfinished business.
  • The 5 planets and 2 Nodes mentioned above are all squaring (90⁰) Saturn in Aquarius.  This forms an extremely powerful fixed t-square configuration (i.e., a right triangle). This greatly increases the tension that many of us will be feeling.  Saturn is the “focal planet” of the t-square, which means it helps us understand how best to handle what his happening.  The ringed planet represents a sense of responsibility, an awareness of rules/regulations, and the ability to set boundaries, when needed.  Saturn also can provide us with maturity, patience, discipline, seriousness, and a desire to be fair to all parties involved.  Given all of the unpredictable energy that Uranus brings, Saturn can help us by slowing down the “change train,” at least a bit. Perhaps most importantly, it can remind us that we are capable, competent adults who can handle whatever is thrown at us.  Our inner child may want to freak out, so our inner adult needs to step up, reassure that child, and confidently say “We’ve got this!” Saturn can also support us in maintaining a long-term perspective on whatever is occurring now.  This includes understanding that everything in life changes. We need to allow change to occur, and we also will do well to trust that any current challenges are temporary and things will eventually turn around.
  • However, this type of fluid, forward thinking approach may not be easy at the time of the Full Moon.  Of the 6 planets and 2 Nodes involved in this t-square, all of them are located in fixed signs (i.e., Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius).  Although fixed signs can be the “worker bees” of the Zodiac and accomplish a great deal, they do NOT like change.  Security comes from things that are familiar and predictable.  I mention this because change is always navigated best by being adaptable and flexible.  The preponderance of fixed signs means that accessing this more fluid approach may require conscious choice and effort.  As we encounter Uranus’s unpredictable energy, we may feel that our stability or foundation is being shaken.  With so many fixed signs being activated right now, our first instinct may be to tighten up, dig in, and try to control what is happening.  However, resistance will only make matters worse.  The only time Uranus is difficult to deal with is when we resist change.

I thought it might help to read about 2 examples that demonstrate how the above influences might manifest:

  • My new website:  The process of creating this new site has hit a variety of technological snags.  Recently, it began to feel like every attempt I made to move forward resulted in either hitting a roadblock or taking a very long and unexpected detour.  I finally decided to try letting go.  I shifted my focus to various postponed personal projects; and unlike the work on the site, things have been easily falling into place.  I clearly benefited from being more flexible and adaptable. Also, because of this short break, I am returning to the site with renewed energy.
  • Election Day:  I have no intention of being political by bringing this up, but it is worth noting that Election Day in the USA is the same day as this Taurus Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse (Tuesday, November 8).  As was true with the general election back in November 2020, I think it is safe to say that there will be some people who are happy with the results and some who will be upset.  But if we apply the information from this Moon Update to the election, it seems clear that we will benefit from flowing with any changes that occur, being as flexible and adaptable as possible, and having faith that we will be fine no matter what the outcome.  I know it’s not easy, but the maturity of Saturn can assist us during this time.

Luckily, we are provided with astrological support!  Pluto is the planet most often associated with transformation and use of power.  At the time of the Full Moon, it will be forming supportive trines (120⁰) and sextiles (60⁰) to many of the planets involved in the Sun-Moon opposition.  How can Pluto assist us?  Based on what has been going on in my own life and the lives of so many people around me, this seems to be a period of time when it may be easier to recognize the differences between the following:

  • The issues where we can make a difference by using our personal power.
  • The areas of life where it’s unlikely that we can make a difference.  And in fact, many people seem to be realizing anew that focusing on these issues often results in unnecessary and pointless worry, frustration, and angst.

Given the positive influence of Pluto, now is at good time to look at where we are using our personal power effectively and where it might be best to use the important life skill of surrender.  For me personally, this has been an excellent time to apply The Serenity Prayer:  “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Another piece of good news:  Without going into excessive interpretive detail, the week following the Taurus Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse is dominated by very supportive and harmonious aspects.  Yes, the time right around November 8 could be turbulent, and there may be some uncomfortable (and possibly unexpected) information that comes to light.  However, we will have time after the initial events to catch our breath.  In fact, during this time, many of us will experience an increased sense of optimism, compassion, and energy, which will help us cope with any recent changes or challenges.

Now, let’s talk about Mars, which entered Gemini toward the end of August.  Normally, Mars will be in a sign about two months; however, because it goes retrograde while in Gemini, Mars will be traveling through Gemini until March 2022 (about 7 months).  Actually, as of Sunday, October 30, Mars began the above-mentioned retrograde phase, which will continue until January 12, 2023.  During this 2+ month retrograde period, we may notice a reduction in our energy.  Given the red planet is located in Gemini, it may, to a certain extent, feel a bit like a Mercury retrograde period because Mercury is the ruler of Gemini.  For example, our thinking may be a bit scattered or we may not pay attention to important details and, therefore, we may miss something important.  Especially during the latter part of November when several planets will be located in fiery Sagittarius, we also need to be very careful that we communicate carefully and don’t take on the Sag quality of being too blunt.  (See notes at the end of this Moon Update about the Sagittarius New Moon occurring on November 23.)

Although action is still possible while Mars is in retrograde, it may feel like our forward motion involves a lot of starts and stops.  We may also want to re-do written communication, or we might experience changes of mind (our own or others).  Although it may not be the best time to start a new project, this is actually an excellent time to go back and finish something that we walked away from, especially if it involves oral/written communication.  That could include finishing paperwork, engaging in postponed conversations, or getting back to a website that needs to be finished (LOL!).  We can also use this as a time to review our recent actions in order to make sure our energies are aligned with our current goals.

For most of the month of November, Mars in Gemini is squaring (90⁰) both Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces.  Gemini is mental energy, and Pisces is about being intuitive.  These aspects likely mean that we need to make some changes (square) in how we integrate our logic (Gemini) and intuition (Pisces).  It may help to think of logic and intuition as 2 ends of a continuum.  Right now, we are being asked to look at whether we are emphasizing one end of the continuum over the other.  This is a wonderful time to move toward a better point of balance or integration.  For example, if we have an intuitive idea, then we can use our logic to make sure it’s reasonable and realistic.  Or if we have mentally worked something out, we shouldn’t forget to take some time to let our intuitive side review our work and provide some input.  Interestingly, Mars, Jupiter, and Neptune are all in retrograde.  Therefore, it may be that this process of integration will best achieved if we carve out some time alone.

On Tuesday, November 15, Venus moves out of Scorpio and into Sagittarius, where it will remain until December 9.  While moving through Sag, our love feels more ethical, universal, and far-reaching.  We may be ready to take a romantic adventure, and we are interested in being honest about our finances and about what we love or desire.  Our focus is on what is true for us.  However, we need to be careful not to assume our truth is “the” truth for everyone.  Also, we do need to be careful not to be too blunt within our relationships.  But overall, this is usually a time when our energy becomes more buoyant and optimistic, especially when compared to the last few weeks when Venus moved through intense Scorpio.

Then two days later on Thursday, November 17, Mercury joins Venus in Sagittarius.  Mercury will only be in Sagittarius for 19 days (until December 6).  While there, our thinking will be more optimistic, and we may also experience an increased sense of faith in the future.  Mentally, we want to play and have fun.  Unlike Mercury’s sojourn through Scorpio, while in Sag, we aren’t interested in going deep; instead, we want to learn about a wide range of topics.  If we allow ourselves to be idealistic and look for possibilities, this may lead to some unexpected and rewarding adventures.  Remember the symbol of Sag is a centaur shooting its arrow upward, so “the sky’s the limit”!  The only warnings are to be careful not to speak or write without thinking, and we may be more interested in the big picture and overlook important details.

Overall, this Taurus Full Moon and total Lunar Eclipse are incredibly powerful and may result in profound changes in our lives, both individually and collectively.  In the midst of all these changes, the Taurus Moon does recommend that we simplify as much as possible.  We can do this through focusing on the present, saying no to extraneous activities, taking care of our bodies, and grounding ourselves.  We need to protect our time, because many of us will benefit from being quiet and using this time to reflect.  Our overarching goal should be to develop a sense of inner security and faith in ourselves.  We need to truly understand and believe that our adult can cope with whatever comes along, even when it’s sudden or unexpected.  We are also encouraged to do something different.  Branch out and experiment.  But also remember that an eclipse (especially a total eclipse like the present one) means that we don’t have to solve any of these issues overnight.  There may be an initial bolt of awareness around the time of the Full Moon, but the changes that occur now and the growth opportunities that those changes bring will likely unfold over the next 6 months.  Therefore, we all have time to develop our skills at discerning the difference between when it’s time to persevere versus when it’s time to “let go and let God.”

New Moon in Sagittarius – Good News! (Wednesday, November 23, 2022)

Because I do need to stay focused on creating the new website, it’s unlikely I will have time to do a Moon Update for the Sagittarius New Moon on Wednesday, November 23 (at 1⁰37′ of Sag).  This occurs the day before the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States.

Luckily, I have good news!  Although retrograde Mars will continue to make forward progress a bit of a stop-and-start proposition, overall, there will be quite a bit of positive energy flowing around us during the time of the Sag New Moon.  The Sun moves into Sagittarius on Tuesday, November 22, and the Moon joins the Sun on November 23.  They join Mercury and Venus, which are already traveling through Sag.  The sign of the centaur brings optimistic, future-focused energy into our lives.

Additionally, Jupiter, which has been moving in retrograde since October 27, will begin moving direct on the same day of the Sag New Moon (i.e., November 23).  Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius, and I always refer to it as “the happy-happy planet.”  Its direct motion will help all of us access the more positive and hopeful energy that Sag brings into our lives.

And if all of that weren’t good enough, there are various supportive aspects that will provide increased compassion, generosity, and possibly even a readiness to have some difficult conversations that could lead to healing.  All of this is perfect timing in the USA given the Thanksgiving holiday is usually a time when families and friends come together.

For those who celebrate this holiday, I wish you the very best and lots of yummy food to eat!
