NEW MOON IN SCORPIO & SOLAR ECLIPSE – Being plunged into the deep end emotionally (October 23, 2014)

Astrology-New-Moon-Full-MoonIn the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 2:56 p.m. on Thursday, October 23. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 1° of Scorpio. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 1° of Scorpio in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.

All New Moons in Scorpio are often associated with deep, passionate feelings. However, this time the New Moon is also a Solar Eclipse and it occurs on the same day that the Sun moves into Scorpio. All of this substantially amplifies the effects of this New Moon.

The New Moon in Scorpio occurs at 1° of Scorpio, just 10 hours after the Sun moves out of relationship-oriented, reasonable Libra and into intensely emotional, passionate Scorpio. This means that we move from doing what looks right (Libra) to doing what feels right (Scorpio). Usually the Sun’s passage into Scorpio is experienced as a slow and gradual deepening of our needs and desires. However, given the Sun enters Scorpio within hours of the New Moon (and the Solar Eclipse), we may feel like we are being suddenly plunged into the deep end of our emotional world.

Although the sign of Scorpio is often represented by the scorpion, it is also often described as the phoenix, which dies and then rises from its own ashes. Scorpio is like that! It represents the need to let something old pass away in order to make room for something new to come into our lives. Akin to the phoenix, there is no death; there is only transformation into a new form.

In order to allow this transformation to occur, we often need to bring into awareness those aspects of our lives and ourselves that have been disowned, suppressed, or even feared. Issues from our unconscious world need to be brought into the light where they can be healed. What we aren’t aware of has the greatest chance of undermining our efforts. We can’t change what we can’t see. When the unconscious becomes conscious, then we have a choice. It takes courage to turn on the light and see what is in the shadows. But if we can do that, then we are empowered to make changes, if needed.

All Solar Eclipses mean that the Sun’s energy is temporarily blocked from reaching the face of the Earth. When this happens, old ways can be released and new energies can move in. These are opportunities for us to reboot our level of consciousness and move to the next level. Solar Eclipses are often associated with times of major endings and beginnings in at least one area of our lives. This can sometimes happen in the house associated with the New Moon, but not always. Additionally, those with natal planets within about 10° of the New Moon/Solar Eclipse may experience more dramatic changes, although all of us will find we are ready to reach a higher level of awareness in at least one area of our lives. But it is also important to keep in mind that all eclipses tell us that we can’t truly move ahead with our new goals until we clean up any unfinished business.

Venus is closely conjunct (0°) the Sun and Moon in Scorpio. This will add even more emotional energy to the New Moon in Scorpio/Solar Eclipse. Overall, it will intensify our desire for affection, appreciation, and even money; and we may find that we draw to ourselves the means for getting some or all of these. Yes, this placement of Venus can amplify jealousy and mistrust in our relationships, and our desire can be so strong that we ignore our integrity and personal ethics. It’s important to remember that we still need to be considerate of others. We need to be honest with ourselves and with others because the less we withhold, the more intimate we can be. Venus’s role is to help us recognize what we want most; however, because we are in the process of healing old wounds, it might be helpful now to ask ourselves, “What have I been running away from?” and “Whom or what do I need to forgive so I can more forward?” As with most deep healings, we may need to give up something in order to get what we want, which echoes the theme from the Solar Eclipse.

At the time of the New Moon and Solar Eclipse, Neptune trines (120°) the Sun, Moon, and Venus. This facilitates creativity, altruism, and the ability to see that love is the foundation for everything. Neptune forms an exact trine (120°) to Venus on Monday, October 27, and to the Sun on Tuesday, October 28 (see below for more information about each of these transits). Both of these days could see an increase in our intuitive abilities.

On Saturday, October 25, Mercury stops its backwards motion and begins moving direct again. During the Mercury retrograde period, we have had an opportunity to review, reconsider, and revamp important projects in our lives. Over the next few days, we will see a gradual change. For example, projects that have been delayed will slowly begin to move forward again, or we may find that we can begin to take action on ideas that came to us during the retrograde period. And blessedly, we may also see a lessening of any technological glitches, which I know many people have been experiencing this month, including me!

Then on Sunday, October 26, Mars moves into earthy, pragmatic Capricorn, where it will remain until December 4. Capricorn is the sign of exaltation for Mars, which means that it is very powerful. A less effective use of this energy is to power our way to the top, without caring about who we hurt in the process. Yes, brute force can overcome obstacles; however, we may feel guilty later if we are unaware of the needs of others. The best use of this energy is to work hard. Productivity will be enhanced through good planning and preparation. We may even find ourselves achieving levels of personal and professional success during this time.

An exact trine (120°) between Venus and Neptune on Monday, October 27, will make for a romantic, imaginative, and compassionate day. After the relationship focus and intensity of the last Full Moon in Libra, this will be a time filled with tenderness, gentleness, compassion, and forgiveness. Ruffled feathers can finally be smoothed out. Emotional wounds can best be healed if we slow down and smell the roses while enjoying the company of like-minded others. Our intuitive abilities are heightened, as is our awareness of the worlds of beauty and the arts. This can be a magical day on a social level, and romance is highly favored.

Finally, on Tuesday, October 28, a wonderful trine (120°) between the Sun and Neptune will reinforce yesterday’s energy. Many of us will feel a renewed faith in the goodness of life. We may also feel like we are in the right place at the right time, which is likely due to our increased intuition. This is a good time to start self-improvement programs. We may also solve a problem that has eluded us for a long time, or we may be rewarded for a past deed.

Overall, this New Moon in Scorpio is ushering in another period of growth for all of us due to its occurrence at the time of the Solar Eclipse and the Sun’s transit into the sign of Scorpio. We have reached a turning point in some area of our lives, and we need to make choices that will have far-reaching and long-lasting consequences, both personally and collectively. If there is any unfinished business, now is the time to clear that clutter from our lives so we can move forward freely toward our goals. Yes, many of us are ready to move into new territory, which can take hard work and courage. Therefore, it is important to stay centered, release what is not working, and remember that, “To escape fear, you have to go through it, not around” (Richie Norton).
