REMINDER
The impact of all New Moons and Full Moons can be depicted by a bell curve. The impact begins about 3 days before the lunar event, steadily increases until the day of the event, and then gradually decreases for 3 days after the actual event.
Sagittarius New Moon
In the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 10:21 p.m. on Saturday, November 30. This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun conjunct (0°) at 09°32’ of Sagittarius. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 09°32’ of Sagittarius in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence. (NOTE: Click here to learn how to find the transiting Moon in your chart.)
All New Moons provide us with an opportunity for a new emotional start in the areas associated with the sign. This time, we are focusing on Sagittarius:
- The higher expression of this sign includes being straightforward, generous, enthusiastic, adventurous, ethical, optimistic, and fun loving.
- The lower expression can lead to being self-indulgent, self-righteous, or overly blunt.
Sagittarius New Moon – Highlights
- The annual New Moon in Sagittarius is a time when many of us feel more adventurous than usual. For some, this may mean actual physical travel. For others, it can include intellectual “travel.” Either way, we feel open to exploring new ideas or ways of being in the world. Issues associated with our beliefs about what is “right” or “wrong” can also come to the forefront.
- Because Sagittarius is a mutable sign, this will help us approach life with flexibility. This includes a willingness to change our minds. We want variety and love learning new things. It’s important to keep things fluid at this time because the best solutions may require doing something that isn’t typical for us. By being willing to follow a new or unexpected path, we could encounter amazing new insights.
- Luckily, the Sag energy often brings a sense of hopefulness and optimism about the future. This will increase the chance that we are open to those novel pathways and that we can make any necessary course corrections with good humor.
- Supporting this is the fact that the New Moon is in an opposition (180°) to Jupiter, which is the ruler of Sagittarius. This will likely enhance our ability to approach even challenging situations with a positive, optimistic outlook and may help us catch glimpses of future opportunities for expansion and growth.
- The New Moon is in a wonderful trine (120°) to Mars, which provides us with increased self-confidence and energy to take charge of a situation and courageously explore those new ideas and directions. We may even feel ready to take a leap of faith. This aspect also supports starting or finishing a major project, as long as doing so (a) involves learning something new and/or (b) we can maintain that ability to shift gears if it looks like an alternative approach might provide better results.
- However, it is important to mention that both ends of the opposition (180°) between the New Moon and Jupiter are squaring (90°) Saturn. This makes the ringed planet the focal point of a t-square (i.e., right triangle), and thereby increases Saturn’s influence at the time of this lunar event. Although the influence of Mars gives us the energy to move forward and Sag provides a dose of optimism, Saturn may present some “reality checks” in the form of obstacles or challenges. And given the Moon is involved, our reactions to anything hindering our efforts could be emotional. We need to remember that most limitations are temporary and that they are provided by the Universe in order to help us see flaws in our original plans or to redirect us toward something even better than we could have imagined. We should do what is needed to avoid slipping into the lower expression of Saturn’s energy (e.g., fears, anxiety, judgments, self-righteous beliefs, pessimism). Our focus should be on letting go of any self-imposed limitations or self-doubts. We need to truly embrace our ability to deal with whatever comes up. It may be helpful to use the affirmation, “I’ve got this,” because you do! But if emotional reactions do occur, Saturn is located in Pisces; therefore, we may find it helpful to be compassionate with ourselves and others and to seek moments of peace or spiritual connection.
- Pluto, which has finalized its shift into Aquarius on November 19, is in a sweet sextile (60°) to the New Moon. This provides us with what we need in order to believe in our ability to overcome any of those previously mentioned obstacles or challenges. If we tap into Pluto’s energy, we may be able to uncover undiscovered or forgotten information that helps clarify a current situation. This could lead to deep, transformational changes that involve letting go of outdated parts of our lives in order to clear the way for new growth and healing.
- Within our relationships, we do need to be aware of a couple of things. First, Sag can be utterly delightful due to its penchant for being optimistic and hopeful. However, the lower expression of this sign can include being judgmental and wee bit too honest (e.g., blunt). Additionally, Venus is squaring (90°) Chiron at the time of the New Moon, which can lead to feeling vulnerable, sensitive, and easily hurt. This is not a great combination! And making matters even more complicated is that as of November 25, Mercury is in retrograde (through December 15). What we say may sound fine in our heads but come out all wrong. This could make conversations very intense and potentially volatile, unless we are willing to think before we speak and take a break if things get heated or someone appears to be unintentionally hurt by what we are expressing.
- Luckily, an exact trine (120°) between Venus and Uranus may be our saving grace. This aspect can help us be willing to look at our relationships from a different perspective or try new behaviors that lead to very positive changes. In fact, we may crave doing something new and spontaneous, and this results in breaking out of our typical routine. This aspect will also help us express ourselves more freely and authentically, especially if we have felt a need for increased freedom within our relationship.
Planetary Movements
- December 6, 2024 through February 24, 2025 – As mentioned in the last Moon Update, Mars begins its retrograde period on December 6. The red planet only goes retrograde every 26 months (i.e., about two years), and it almost always is experienced as a very powerful event. (NOTE: Click here to read more about Planets in Retrograde.) During this time, it is likely that we will be taking some actions, often behind the scenes, to renovate or revamp something that has previously been important in our life. Also as mentioned in the last Moon Update, because of the impact of the ongoing series of Mars-Pluto oppositions (180°), which will continue to influence us through mid-2025, the changes that we decide to make will likely involve facing deep truths, letting go of what is no longer serving us, and exploring where we want to use our personal power in new ways.
- December 7, 2024 through January 2, 2025 – Venus moves out of Capricorn and into Aquarius on December 7. This can be a time when (a) we feel an increased need for independence and (b) we value having an intellectual connection within our relationships. Although we love them just as much as we always have, others may feel we are emotionally distant or reserved. We tend to be more objective within our relationships. If we are feeling an increased need for personal freedom or independence during this time, it’s important to remember that open communication will increase the chance that those around us will respond positively to our expressed needs. Also, unique or unconventional relationships can be very attractive when Venus is in Aquarius, and we may feel drawn to becoming involved in a caring group that has humanitarian goals.
- December 7, 2024 through July 3, 2025 – Neptune ends its annual retrograde phase (July 2-December 7, 2024) and begins moving direct again. Any dreams that have been formulating during the 5-month retrograde phase may begin to manifest once Neptune picks up speed in the coming weeks. Given Neptune is currently located in Pisces (its own sign), we may also feel an increase desire to express our compassion and spirituality in the world. However, when Neptune is moving direct, the proverbial “fog” that is associated with this planet can become thicker. We may unconsciously put on a pair of rose-colored glasses and see only what we want to see. Because of this, we need to make sure we aren’t letting illusions or false realities cloud our vision when making important decisions. Consulting trusted others will likely be helpful.
