NEW MOON IN LEO-Where do you need to take a leap of faith and have courage? (August 17, 2012)
This month’s New Moon on Friday, August 17, finds both the Moon and Sun in conjunction (0°) at 26° of Leo. To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 26° of Leo in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with that house are going to be most affected by this New Moon’s presence.
The sign (and house) that are involved in any New Moon represent a time of new beginnings, new intentions, and new emotional starts. This time, the New Moon occurs in Leo. The Sun is the ruler of Leo, so this New Moon often feels more powerful than most New Moons because the Sun is at home in this sign. All 12 astrological signs have higher and lower expressions of the sign’s energies. The higher expression of Leo includes being self-confident, loving, romantic, idealistic, loyal, and creative. The lower expression includes being overly dramatic, prideful, attention seeking, and self-centered.
Leo is associated with the Sun, which is the center of our solar system. It is also associated with our solar plexus, which is the center of our body. And perhaps most importantly, it is associated with the heart chakra, which is the center of our 7 primary chakra system. We are being asked to find our core truth around which everything else in our life must revolve. The spiritual task of Leo is to live from one’s center and one’s heart. It stimulates leadership qualities, and our goal is to provide heart-centered leadership.
To do this requires courage, which is represented by the symbol of the lion. This symbol reflects the dedication and heroism required to become separate, unique beings. It takes courage to be who we really are – neither pretending nor hiding. It takes willpower to stay on our own path when our family, our friends, and our society often dictate otherwise. If we look to others to tell us what to do, how to dress, or who to be, then the universe will never know our gifts.
The New Moon in Leo is a reminder that each one of us is an original spark of the Divine. New Moons in Leo encourage us to shine our unique energy or light into the world. Who were you born to be? What do you dream of for yourself and for the world? Your voice, your talent, your passion are needed now. This New Moon illuminates what must be center stage in our lives and the role we have to play in humanity’s evolution.
At the time of this New Moon, Mars will be conjunct (0°) of Saturn, and both of these planets are closely sextile (60°) the Sun and the Moon. This wonderful flow of harmonious energy provides support in all our endeavors by providing organization, focus, and effective social skills, all of which are likely to produce constructive results. Leo energy can sometimes be immature or egotistic; however, the free-flowing positive energy of mature Saturn will provide us with the maturity and patience that allows us to build something lasting from the creative impulses brewing now. And the energy of Mars fuels this friction-free energy.
On Saturday, August 18, a beautiful trine (120°) between Mercury and Uranus lights up our brains with unusual ideas and excite us with surprising conversations. And several days after the New Moon (Wednesday, August 22), the Sun moves into practical Virgo, which provides practical energy to support the exploration of those new ideas. And one day later (Thursday, August 23), Mars enters its traditional home sign of Scorpio. This will increase our commitment, passion, persistence, and efficiency. Responsibilities will be handled with concentration, which isn’t ideal for multitasking, but it does permit total engagement to ensure that the job gets done . . . and done well.
Several additional aspects during this time period put the focus on partnerships of all kinds. Some of us will find that our alliances are challenged, but this is meant to encourage us to examine our expectations to see if they are realistic. If we walk through important relationships blindly, then we are vulnerable to being manipulated or under-appreciated. Serious discussions can actually build trust and you may find that you gain more support from others if you are honest with yourself and with others about your needs at this time.
Overall, this New Moon in Leo is asking us some very important questions. Where are your talents most needed? Where do you need to shine your light? Where do you need to take a leap of faith and have courage? In a few weeks, many of us will experience some major revelations and breakthroughs. And while you wait for the planets to align for this major leap in evolution, focus on gratitude, because gratitude will open your heart center. All of us have many blessings; however, remember that you are a blessing, too, and the world needs your love and your light. Be all that you came here to be, and live each moment knowing that “Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.” (Khalil Gibran)
