NEW MOON IN ARIES – Consciously choose how you want to use this powerful Aries energy (April 11, 2021)

Intermediate Astrology CourseIn the Pacific Time Zone, the New Moon will occur at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 11.  This New Moon finds the Moon and Sun conjunct (0°) at 23° of Aries.  To further clarify how this New Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 23° of Aries in your birth/natal chart.  The issues associated with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon’s presence.

New Moons always provide us with an opportunity for a new emotional start in the areas associated with the sign.  This time, we are focused on Aries.  The higher expression of the sign of the ram is associated with independence, courage, energy, and confidence.  The lower expression can include being impulsive, competitive, or aggressive.  However, at the time of this New Moon, the Sun and Moon aren’t the only objects in our solar system that are traveling through Aries.  Mercury, Venus, and Chiron are also in Aries.  This means we are all experience a log of Aries energy!

Aries is a cardinal fire sign, which means we will likely feel ready to start something new.  At its most positive, this time period could see us feeling very self-confident and ready to begin a new endeavor.  The Aries energy provides us with energy, strength, and courage, all of which are helpful when starting on a new path.  There is also a strong need for independence with Aries.  We want to be self-sufficient, and we need to be allowed to make our own choices.

However, there is something interesting about this grouping of planets in Aries.  Although Aries is considered one of the most masculine signs, the Moon and Venus are both in Aries.  These are the two celestial bodies most associated with the female energy.  I read once that a helpful interpretation of this Moon-Venus conjunction in Aries is “engaged receptivity.”  For example, this could help us independently move forward (masculine) while remaining open to what our feelings are telling us (feminine).  The feminine energy may also help recognize the “signs” when the best action (masculine) is to be patient (feminine).

Luckily, we will have a lot of energy supporting this New Moon.  The Sun, Moon, and Venus are all in supportive sextiles (60°) to Mars in Gemini, and all three are also in sextiles (60°) to Jupiter in Aquarius.  Additionally, Mars is in a wonderful trine (120°) to Jupiter.  Without individually analyzing each of these aspects, let’s just say that this is all “good stuff.”  The softer, feminine energy may be easier to actively express, which could lead to collaboration.  Jupiter is about expansion, and Aquarius is about humanitarianism.  So, we may see growth in recognizing the needs of others.

Because Mercury is conjunct (0°) Chiron at the time of the New Moon, we could be feeling insecure or vulnerable when it comes to our thinking or speaking.  This could be exacerbated by an exact square (90°) between Mars and Neptune, which may cause us to have a hard time focusing or getting organized.  However, this Mars-Neptune aspect does increase the chances that our intuition may provide us with insights that lead to inspired (Neptune) action (Mars).  Luckily, Saturn will be in an exact trine (120°) to the North Node, which means Saturn is also in a sextile (60°) to the South Node.  This will likely help us slow down, tap into the wisdom from the past, and sort out our future options in a responsible way.

Unfortunately, there is a potential “fly in the ointment” that may be hard for some of us to avoid.  The Sun/Moon/Venus trio in Aries are all squaring (90°) Pluto in Capricorn.  Aries and Capricorn are both cardinal signs.  This means we may feel ready to initiate action (Aries) that has a practical goal (Capricorn).  Independence and being able to do things our own way is emphasized.  However, due to these squares to Pluto, the question may be whether we want to start a new project or whether we want to start a fight.  Squares often symbolize an important turning point.  When squares involve Pluto, many times there is increased sensitivity to being controlled, disempowered, or dominated.

This could mean that we feel emotionally triggered by any efforts to restrict our ability to control our own fate, forge our own path, or feel a sense of freedom.  Especially within our personal relationships, we are advised to be very aware of any power struggles and find ways to courageously express our feelings while also listening to what others have to share.  On a collective/societal level, any perceived overreaction from authority figures could be a trigger for the Aries warrior to come out.  Luckily, this Moon Update will help all of us mindfully watch for any knee-jerk reactions.  These could be unconscious reactions to this energy.  How we react is always our choice, and this could be an important turning point in seeing how the use of personal power is almost always more effective than using brute force.

Toward the end of April, the energy will calm down as three planets move out of potentially hot-headed Aries and into usually calm, cool, and collected Taurus.  Although this first planet may not be strong enough to counter all the Aries energy mid-month, Venus will be the first to begin the trek into Taurus (on Tuesday, April 13).  It will remain in Taurus until May 10.  This 4-week period could see us seeking out experiences that allow us to enjoy life more, especially if it involves our five earthly senses.  For example, it’s a good time to get a message, explore aroma therapy, or wrap ourselves in a very soft blanket while we listen to our favorite music.  Within our relationships, we will prefer receiving tangible expressions of love, such as gifts or help around the house.  Venus also has to do with finances.  When in Taurus, we want our investments to be long-term, secure, and practical.

On Monday, April 19, the influx of grounded energy intensifies when both the Sun and Mercury move out of Aries and into Taurus.  They will remain in this sign for 1 month and 3.5 weeks, respectively.  When the Sun is in Taurus, we tend to want to slow down and start to process the many new things that took place while the Sun was in Aries.  For most, this shift is a welcome change.  However, it can be experienced as a bit of a shock for those who enjoyed the faster-paced, courageous energy of Aries.  When you think of Taurus, think of a bull.  Its energy is slow and plodding, and the bull wants to take its time consider all its options before it leaves the security of its familiar pasture.  However, once it decides to go in a particular direction, that bull can be very determined and hard to stop.

Having Mercury move into Taurus is more of the same but with a mental focus.  For example, Aries often had our thoughts racing, but now we want time to think.  In addition to our minds slowing down, we may talk slower.  And any solutions that we come up with will more than likely be based on common sense and relatively simple.  We also may be more focused on security needs.

One last note:  On Tuesday, April 20, Jupiter and Pluto will form in a minor aspect called a semi-square (45°).  This aspect will actually occur two additional times during 2021 (i.e., September 11 & November 27).  I often don’t talk about semi-squares because they often aren’t very powerful.  However, this is the first time that Jupiter and Pluto are forming an aspect since their three powerful conjunctions (0°) during 2020, and the next aspect often triggers the previous one.  Semi-squares (45°) are, as the name implies, half of a square (90°).  Squares often represent powerful turning point, and semi-squares don’t pack the same punch.  They might best be thought of as re-evaluation or adjustment periods.  Therefore, this could be a time when we are reflecting on what we went through during 2020.  This could include gaining some perspective regarding the lessons that have been learned from what we all experienced.

Overall, this Aries New Moon may be a time when we start a new endeavor in our lives.  However, we do have to consciously choose how we are going to use our energy.  We can use it to courageously move forward with strength and confidence, or we can choose to use this energy to fight for a cause that our warrior nature feels is important.  Whichever direction we go, it’s important that we integrate both the masculine energy (e.g., independence, energy, confidence) with the feminine energy (e.g., compassion, cooperation, collaboration, patience).  This time around the New Moon may be a good time to begin courageously manifesting because later this month, things are going to slow down quite a bit as more planets move out of face-paced Aries and into slower moving Taurus.  But for now, enjoy the powerful ride of this wave of Aries energy.
