FULL MOON IN LEO – Where do you need to shine your unique light in order to contribute to the whole? (February 3, 2015)
In the Pacific Time Zone, the Moon will be full at 3:08 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3. With this Full Moon, the Sun in Aquarius will be in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Leo. To further clarify how this Full Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 15° of Aquarius and 15° of Leo in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most impacted by this Full Moon’s presence.
Full Moons provide us with increased light by which to see what is true for us, which we do through finding a balance between the qualities of the two signs involved. As is true of all signs that oppose each other, they are related. With Leo, we are being asked to look at our power as an individual; with Aquarius, we are being encouraged to recognize the power that we hold as members of a group or community.
Leo is the sign most associated with creating something unique to contribute to the world. With Aquarius, the belief is that “the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.” Our challenge now is to find ways to use our unique spark to help the community (or communities) to which we belong. Where are we each being called to shine and share our light for the greater good? As often happens, if we can find a way to be part of a like-minded group, then our individual gifts become further amplified. It’s a win-win!
At the time of the Full Moon, Jupiter is conjunct (0°) the Moon and in opposition (180°) to the Sun. Expansive Jupiter can turn up the volume on our feelings (Moon) and personalities (Sun). Additionally, both the Moon and Jupiter are in a free-flowing trine (120°) to Uranus, which is, of course, in the ongoing square (90°) to Pluto. Uranus will bring with it a strong desire for originality, uniqueness, and freedom. But Pluto’s presence cannot be ignored; it is pushing us to make some major changes in order to continue our healing journey. We are living in revolutionary times, and this Full Moon is calling us to further define our concepts of equality and freedom. And with Mars, Venus, Neptune, and Chiron all in Pisces, we are being given the strength to take compassionate action that leads to healing and an increased understanding of our Divine nature and interconnectedness.
However, because Mercury is currently in retrograde in Aquarius, this is not necessarily a time to take action. When Mercury is in Aquarius, it is often a time of brilliant ideas. However, when in retrograde, we may feel internally distracted, unable to focus, and discouraged by what we perceive as a lack of foresight in others. The seeming backwards motion of the planet of communication is helping us to take the necessary time to reevaluate what is working and what is not working when it comes to making real changes in our lives. Given the focus is on the sign of Aquarius, we may be rethinking our hopes, friendships, and larger group activities.
Right before the Full Moon, a conjunction (0°) between Venus and Neptune on Sunday, February 1, will make for a day filled with magic and romance. We may not feel like taking care of practical matters, but this planetary union can spark imagination, artistry, and love. Just be sure to recognize that this conjunct could also cause us to confuse a spiritual connection with a romantic one. It is wise to wait a day or two before making any major decisions regarding relationship issues.
The following day (Monday, February 2), a sweet sextile (60°) between the Sun and Uranus could open our eyes to previously unseen possibilities. We may feel more comfortable with our own “idiosyncratic wackiness,” and we probably will adapt fairly easily to any changing circumstances and unfamiliar situations. Routines will be difficult today and remaining flexible will be important.
On Friday, February 6, the Sun will be in an exact opposition (180°) to Jupiter. This will open our hearts and provide a dose of optimism and hope. The problem with Jupiter is that we can go too far and overestimate our abilities. Experiencing new things is fine right now, but we need to be careful about overpromising due to our overinflated sense that “anything is possible.”
Then on Saturday, February 7, pleasurable Venus will sextile (60°) profound Pluto. Intimacy and deep conversations are possible today, which could enhance love relationships. Due to our increased ability to recognize the worth and value in others and in ourselves, partnerships can be healed. This may also be a good time to deal with finances, especially if we need to “dig deep” to understand what might be going on and to heal any wounds in this arena of our life.
Real change is being called for now, but we may not feel able to implement what we have recently learned until Mercury turns direct on Wednesday, February 11. It always takes a few days before we get up to speed, but we are likely to feel a gradual release of obstacles in certain areas of our lives. Yet with Saturn currently in Sagittarius, whatever bright ideas we want to implement must meet practical needs. Nothing abstract will get off the ground now. We may have lofty ideas, but they need to be translated into concrete form.
In sum, even though our thoughts will be turned inward due to Mercury being in retrograde until February 11, aspects to this Full Moon in Leo are likely to lower our inhibitions and enhance our desire for originality and freedom. We are being asked to find a balance between our unique gifts (Leo Moon) and the collective consciousness (Aquarius Sun). Balance can be achieved if we can find ways to shine our light as part of our community and work collaboratively as a team of individual geniuses. This Full Moon in Leo is reminding all of us that, “We are all born with a divine fire in us. Our efforts should be to give wings to this fire and fill the world with the glow of its goodness.” (Abdul Kalam)
