FULL MOON IN LEO-Think outside the box and let your heart show you the way (February 14, 2014)

Astrology New Moon Full MoonIn the Pacific Time Zone (PST), the Moon will be full at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, February 14.  With this Full Moon, the Sun in Aquarius will be in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Leo.  To further clarify how this Full Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 27° of Aquarius and 27° of Leo in your birth/natal chart.  The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most impacted by this Full Moon’s presence.

As with all Full Moons, this Full Moon in Leo is asking us to find a balance between the two signs involved, Leo and Aquarius.  Keywords associated with Leo include self-confident, big-hearted, loving, romantic, loyal, dramatic, and self-focused.  Keywords for Aquarius include independent, inventive, humanistic, social, tolerant, rebellious, and other-focused.  Our attention now shouldn’t be on one end of this continuum or the other, but, instead, it should be about finding a balance between two seeming opposites.  Both are important now, especially in the houses through which the transiting Sun and Moon are moving in your birth/natal chart.

Full Moons in Leo tend to be fairly playful and sociable.  And in the United States, this one happens to fall on Valentine’s Day.  With romantic Leo involved, it’s a good day to make a big deal about the day of love!  Applaud, appreciate, and love your significant other.  Let them know just how special they are to you and how much you value your relationship.  If you aren’t in a relationship, then focus on believing that you are spectacular and deserve to be loved, which is true!  This Full Moon will open our heart chakras, which will allow us stand out with confidence, authority, and love, including self-love.  So let your heart shine!

Leo is ruled by the Sun, which loves shining bright, even if doing so brings a little drama along with it.  Aquarius is ruled by unpredictable Uranus, so it, too, can enjoy creating a little drama now and then.  The appreciation for drama is something these two signs would appear to have in common.  However, with the Moon in Leo, the drama is designed to bring attention to the individual, whereas the Sun in Aquarius is about using drama to awaken others to the need for social justice, tolerance, and humanitarianism.  These are two very different approaches!  Luckily, both can be used effectively now, in moderation.

However, Saturn is squaring (90°) both the Sun and the Moon.  Saturn tends to focus on responsibilities, order, discipline, and structure.  This will very likely help control any overly dramatic tendencies, although it could also put a damper on some romantic Valentine’s Day plans (if you allow it to do so).  This configuration of three planets forms a t-square (right triangle) in fixed signs, which is challenging us to solve problems in practical ways (Scorpio Saturn) using our intellect (Aquarius Sun) and our emotions (Leo Moon).

Luckily, Mars is trine (120°) the Sun and sextile (60°) the Moon.  These favorable aspects will provide us with the energy we need to take action.  This is especially true if those actions support Saturn’s involvement in the Full Moon in Leo.  Mars will provide the courage and motivation to address challenging issues around creating more structure in our lives and/or taking on a leadership role.  And the sweet sextile to the Moon means that we have support now for anything we want to put our heart into.

Uranus is the modern ruler of Aquarius, and it is involved in the ongoing series of squares (90°) to both Pluto (i.e., 7 between 2012-2015) and Jupiter (i.e., 3 between August 2013-April 2014).  All squares indicate turning points, and Uranus’s involvement with both Pluto and Jupiter is urging us to break with tradition and establish new understandings, new ideals, and new institutions.  This cardinal t-square formed by the 3 planets will continue to be an ongoing influence in our lives for the next 10 weeks, intensifying the cosmic summons for change, creativity, and ethical behavior.

At the time of this Full Moon, retrograde Mercury conjoins (0°) the Sun in Aquarius.  This further reinforces the cosmic imperative to “think outside the box.”  And both Mercury and the Sun square (90°) Saturn in Scorpio, which urges us to use our power and resources well.  We may receive important insights and revelations when the Sun conjoins (0°) Neptune on February 23 (see below for more on this special day), when Jupiter squares (90°) Uranus on February 26, and when Mercury turns direct on February 28.  The latter change in Mercury’s direction occurs during the time of the next New Moon, which will add impetus to any new starts in our lives.

The next day (Saturday, February 15), Mercury forms a free-flowing trine (120°) to Mars.  We may find it hard NOT to think that day!  Given Mercury is in retrograde, remember that “re” words are emphasized.  So this may be a good day to reshape your thinking and reconsider how you are communicating with people.  We may find ourselves thinking about how we can realign our goals so we can evolve as souls.  This is a good time to reaffirm the power of affirmations, refocus on believing in ourselves and what we have to offer, and reconnect with Spirit/Universal consciousness.  We will need to have all the “re” work done by the time Mercury goes direct on Friday, February 28, so use the power of this Mercury-Mars trine to kick things into high gear regarding the “re” words in your life!

On Tuesday, February 18, the Sun moves into the mutable water sign of Pisces.  We are being drawn out of the Aquarian clouds of idealism and down into an emotional connection with all of humanity.  The Sun in Pisces can either provide us with the faith and compassion to smooth out any rough spots in our lives, or we may feel drawn to lose ourselves in distractions and delusions in order to avoid dealing with them.  Additional escape pods could include using substances or even using spirituality as diversions from our Earthy reality.  We may feel less active in the watery energy of Pisces, and our decisions may be more intuitive than usual and, therefore, hard to explain.  It’s important now to use faith to override fear and to focus on the higher expressions of Piscean energy (e.g., empathy, selfless love, devotion, wisdom).

Luckily, the first day that the Sun enters Pisces (Tuesday, February 18) is unlikely to be a day when we drift off into fantasyland or escape into delusions because retrograde Mercury squares (90°) Saturn.  As long as we don’t fall into the Piscean pitfalls of negativity (e.g., doubt, pessimism, despair), the presence of this aspect could prompt some serious thinking that shifts our focus away from being a victim and toward finding solutions.  Unfortunately, because this aspect is a square and squares often involve conflict, the signals we receive about where we need to refocus our energy (another Mercury retrograde “re” word) will very likely come in the form of obstacles.  Because the Sun is in Pisces, we may have to work very hard to counter any tendencies toward negative thinking right now.  And again, because Mercury is in retrograde, projects that we thought were complete might need revisions.  Above all, be patient with each other because words could sound more critical than usual right now.  Try not to personalize anything!

On Friday, February 21, the lunar Nodes change signs.  For about the last 18 months, they have been in Scorpio (North Node) and Taurus (South Node). For the next year and a half, they will shift into Libra and Aries.  Lunar nodes have to do with life lessons, and this change will impact us on an individual and collective level.  For example, although independent action and possibly even aggression (South Node in Aries) may be the way we used to deal with things in the past, we will begin to see a greater need for cooperation and compromise (North Node in Libra).  This shift in the nodal axis to Aries-Libra supports the overarching evolutionary emphasis for humanity to move toward an understanding of unity and oneness.

Once a year, the Sun forms an exact conjunction (0°) with Neptune, and this year it occurs on Sunday, February 23.  Although all of us will likely feel more emotionally sensitive, this could be a very magical, spirit-filled day.  Our sensitivities (on all levels) are enhanced.  We may find that we are more able to connect with other dimensions, including highly evolved energies that can assist us on furthering our development and raising our level of consciousness to new heights.

On Monday, February 24, a sweet sextile (60°) between Venus and Saturn could bring order to our relationships.  Although relatively brief in duration, this is a mature aspect that often supports everyone in being more reasonable than usual.  Feelings, when expressed, are likely done in a reserved fashion, and a new sense of realism in existing partnerships (of all kinds) may come now.  If needed, we may receive advice and guidance from authority figures or from those older than ourselves.  This might be a good day to spend time in meditation or out in nature.

The next day (Tuesday, February 25), the second in a series of three exact squares (90°) between Jupiter and Uranus occurs.  For a few days before and after this exact square, we could feel more impulsive or reactionary.  Also, some of us may feel an increased need for excitement, adventure, or fun.  However, this pairing has been known to incite philosophical battles, so it would be best to back away from extreme positions until after this aspect makes its third and final square on April 20.

This Full Moon in Leo is telling us that we are ready for some new beginnings.  We are living in extraordinary times, and it’s important for each of us to add our voice, our hands, and our gifts to the world.  This Full Moon in Leo reminds us that we are all part of the human race, and we are in this together.  This is a good time to think about where we are ready to think, see, and do things differently – and then we need to let our heads (Aquarius) think outside the box and then let our hearts (Leo) show the “right” way for us.  As Einstein observed, “The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.”
