FULL MOON IN CAPRICORN – Don’t take this Full Moon lightly but do be sure to have some fun! (July 1, 2015)

Astrology-New-Moon-Full-MoonIn the Pacific Time Zone, the Moon will be full at 7:19 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1. With this Full Moon, the Sun in Cancer will be in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Capricorn. To further clarify how this Full Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 10° of Cancer and 10° of Capricorn in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most impacted by this Full Moon’s presence.

In addition to illuminating two areas of our lives that might need our attention, all Full Moons require that we find a balance between the two signs involved. With this month’s Full Moon, those signs are Cancer and Capricorn. Cancer is all about nurturing those we define as family, protecting whatever we care about, and finding inner security. Capricorn is also concerned with security, but its focus is on mastering external challenges, developing autonomy, and acting with responsibility and integrity. Cancer is often described as mother energy, and Capricorn as father energy. Both sides are important to focus on now, so we are being asked to find a balance between the Divine Mother and Divine Father within both ourselves and society. With Cancer, we may have to look at how we have been taking care of everyone else but ourselves. And with Capricorn, we need to be sure that we aren’t abdicating our authority to others. This is a good influence under which to quit bad habits or change detrimental behaviors.

This Full Moon is greatly impacted by two aspects: (a) the Sun is conjunct (0°) Mars and (b) the Moon is conjunct (0°) Pluto. The focus of both Mars and Pluto is power, so these two planets are going to provide a great deal of “fuel” to this Full Moon. The influence of the Sun/Mars combination is that we will have increased energy and enthusiasm, and we may feel ready to take action on something we’ve been thinking about for some time. With the Moon/Pluto pairing, we are being given a chance to do some deep emotional healing, which may involve looking inward for how we might be using force rather than power in our current relationships (or used it in past relationships). The positive expression of this energy is to face any fears and release anything that no longer serves our spiritual evolution.

What I’ve described in the previous paragraph may sound very manageable, but a warning is important here. The opposition (180°) between the Sun/Mars and the Moon/Pluto is a potentially volatile combination. For example, the Moon (emotions) and the Sun (identity) could feel a need to challenge sources of power (Pluto) in a forceful (Mars) way. This is especially true if we are defending someone else who we perceive as defenseless (Cancer’s influence), much like a mother bear defending its cubs. We could lash out at others very forcefully, particularly if we feel someone is using his/her power inappropriately. Awareness of this tendency will help us all remember to use power and not force to accomplish our goals. Or if someone lashes out at you, then take “time out” before responding, because reacting with force will only inflame the situation.

Luckily, Neptune very closely trines (120°) the Sun and sextiles (60°) the Moon during this time. This very positive placement of the most spiritual of planets (Neptune) can provide Divine guidance and a sense of inner knowing that may be hard to explain. We could find ourselves in the right place at the right time due to our increased psychic/intuitive connections. This group of aspects will also increase our compassion, empathy, imagination, and creativity. Neptune’s presence will help us to remember that we all come from the same Source and are simply doing the best we can.

Additionally, Venus, the planet of love, makes its first of three conjunctions (0°) with Jupiter at the time of the Full Moon (the others will occur on August 4 and October 25). This aspect may also help calm the emotional waters of the Full Moon. It occurs in the sign of Leo and is calling us to enjoy life’s pleasures, especially anything involving love or self-expression (Leo’s influence). Many of us may find this a magical transit that urges us to fulfill our heart’s desires. We will likely feel generous, optimistic, and benevolent toward others. It is a good time to start a new relationship or new financial undertaking. Social opportunities of all kinds are appealing, which is perfectly timed around what is the 4th of July holiday in the United States.

In the days following the Full Moon (July 2-5), Mercury will make a series of sweet sextiles (60°) with Venus, Jupiter, and Uranus. As mentioned above, all of these aspects straddle what is the 4th of July holiday in the Unites States. Overall, this will be a socially advantageous time when we may be able to easily build bridges and connections. Thinking outside the box will come easily now, as will being optimistic. We will likely enjoy social engagements and even find ways to strengthen personal and business relationships. It’s time to celebrate, and it’s okay if we put off dealing with more serious problems until later. But because Mercury will also square (90°) Chiron during this time, we may be more mentally aware than usual of our inner wounds. With the support of the previously mentioned sextiles with Mercury, this may support us in suddenly finding solutions and healing some long-standing issues.

On Monday, July 6, the Sun exactly opposes (180°) Pluto, and then it exactly squares (90°) Uranus on Sunday, July 12. These are slow moving aspects, so the effects will impact us for several days around these dates. This forms a powerful t-square (right triangle). Given the planets involved, this could be a time when we have enough light (Sun) to suddenly (Uranus) see where big transformations (Pluto) are needed in our lives. As is always the case with Uranus, we may be surprised by something that leads to an awakening of some kind.

Mercury moves out of Gemini and into the sign of Cancer on Wednesday, July 8, where it will remain until July 24. We will be thinking and talking about issues at home, how to create greater security in our lives, and possibly events and people from our past. The information we take in and give out may be more intuitive than usual, and our thoughts may be colored by our emotions.

Also on Wednesday, July 8, Mars forms a free-flowing trine (120°) with Neptune, which further stimulates our intuition. However, we may find that today is not a good day for taking care of practical issues, and anything routine may feel stifling. The good news is that this aspect does have a tendency to soften any anger issues so they can be resolved more easily.

On Monday, July 13, a square (90°) between Venus and Saturn will usher in a more serious tone, which we may feel between July 11-15. We may find ourselves facing some relationship or financial issues that we’ve been ignoring. Others may feel more emotionally distant than usual, and we could feel unappreciated or undervalued. Some of us will manifest this aspect by feeling insecure in our relationships or imagine rejection where it doesn’t exist. The best use of this transit is to pull inward for serious reflection about relationship and/or financial issues that might need our attention.

Overall, we all need to take the energy around the time of this Full Moon in Capricorn seriously. Given the added influence of Mars (energy) and Pluto (power), the emotional volatility of this Full Moon could be hard to control. For example, there may be a tendency to be very protective of others who we perceive as needing our support (or even protecting ourselves). But if we remain vigilant to this tendency, we can use the power provided by both Mars and Pluto to do some deep healing work. Luckily, many of the aspects occurring after this lunar event are very supportive of having fun, making connections (even romantic ones), and tapping into our intuitive abilities to solve problems. There’s energy in abundance now, and it’s important to remember that we need to keep our thoughts positive and to be optimistic because, “Your attitude influences your world and everything you do in it. A positive attitude opens you to the flow of life.” (James Van Praagh)
