FULL MOON IN AQUARIUS – Lighthouses don’t fire cannons to call attention to their shining – they just shine (August 10, 2014)
In the Pacific Time Zone, the Moon will be full at 11:09 a.m. on Sunday, August 10. With this Full Moon, the Sun in Leo will be in opposition (180°) to the Moon in Aquarius. To further clarify how this Full Moon will impact you on a personal level, locate 19° of Leo and 19° of Aquarius in your birth/natal chart. The issues associated with those two houses are going to be most impacted by this Full Moon’s presence.
Full Moons are always powerful times, and this Full Moon in Aquarius is no exception. Because we have more light during a Full Moon than during a New Moon, we are now able to see more clearly where we have been and where we need to go. But this Full Moon happens to also be one of the five SuperMoons occurring this year. This is when the Moon’s orbit is closest to the Earth, which increases the gravitational pull on the Earth, as well as on our physical and emotional states. It amps up the power of the New or Full Moon considerably!
All Full Moons require finding balance between the qualities of two seemingly opposite signs. With this Full Moon, one end of the continuum is Leo, which wants to express its individual light and be solely recognized for its unique creations in the world. On the other end of the continuum is Aquarius, which focuses on an individual’s part in a community and the innovation that can occur through collaboration. Our goal is to find a way to express our unique spark (Leo) in a way that serves the larger community/humanity (Aquarius).
One of the ways in which these two signs are similar is that they both have a desire to express love in the world. However, Leo does it in a passionate and effusive manner, whereas Aquarius does it in a detached and cerebral way. During the time of an Aquarius Full Moon, it is helpful to remember that when we give, we also receive; when we help others, we too are uplifted; when we give love, we often receive love in return.
But this Full Moon in Aquarius is even more powerful than usual because it forms a t-square in the sky above us (i.e., a right triangle). Saturn squares (90°) both the Sun and the Moon, and all three are in fixed signs (Scorpio, Leo, & Aquarius, respectively). Fixed t-squares almost always are a catalyst for breaking down longstanding patterns. And the power of Saturn in Scorpio shouldn’t be underestimated. We are being asked to carefully assess our resources, be our own authority, and possibly even assume our rightful position as a leader. It is important now to focus and prioritize before acting on any brilliant ideas. We may need to set healthier boundaries with others in order to achieve our goals with dedication, discipline, and integrity. And we may also need to look at our motivations and even our fears. Questions we might want to ask ourselves include, “Where do I still give away my power?”, “Where am I still afraid to shine my light, speak my mind, and live my truth?”, and “What am I really afraid of?”
Saturn squaring this Full Moon also is asking us be authentic (Aquarius) and confident (Leo). In addition to the desire to express love, another quality that the two signs have in common is the desire for uniqueness. We may find that we are being asked (even pushed) to express ourselves in a manner that is different from society. Keep in mind that when we express ourselves in an original or authentic way, we may not get the approval that we are accustomed to receiving from those around us . . . or even from society. Although that recognition may come over time, in the short run, we may not receive the applause that the Leo Sun is seeking. It is important to be strong, move forward on our path, and to love ourselves in spite of any challenges. Daring to be different can involve risk in the short run, but suppressing who we really are is a greater risk in the long run.
Two days before this Full Moon in Aquarius (Friday, August 8), a very powerful aspect will bring a lot of energy into our lives. Mercury will conjunct (0°) Jupiter in Leo and both of these planets will square (90°) Mars in Scorpio. The conjunct between Jupiter and Mercury in Leo means that this is a time to think positively and use affirmations. But the square with Mars will be what makes these aspects pop with energy and excitement. After spending almost eight months in Libra, Mars recently moved into Scorpio. It’s ready for action, and it will be in passionate, intense Scorpio the entire month of August. Given the connection between Mars and Mercury/Jupiter, we should use our passion to manifest what we want! So when we say our affirmations, be sure to say them with enthusiasm for greatest effect!
On Tuesday, August 12, Venus moves into the sign of Leo. Love and even romance take center stage for the next three weeks, as does generosity and hope. The lower expression of this transit is a need for approval, acknowledgement, attention, and even adoration, especially from those we love. But the high road would involve expressions of affection, love, and perhaps even new or rekindled romance.
Friday, August 15, starts off with a wonderful sextile (60°) between Mars and Pluto. This sets the stage for a productive, efficient day that is reinforced by Mercury moving out of Leo and into Virgo, where it will remain until September 3. Virgo is ruled by Mercury, so Mercury is very happy here and tends to be very powerful. For the rest of the month, we will likely see our thinking and communication becoming more logical, analytical, and organized. Yes, there is the risk of getting lost in the details and not seeing the forest for the trees. But overall, now is a good time to engage in anything that requires precise thinking, such as focusing on the details that will turn big dreams into reality.
A few days later (Sunday, August 17), Venus will form an exact conjunct (0°) Jupiter. This is a magical transit and many of us will likely be feeling much more loving, generous, playful, and optimistic than usual. New relationships (especially of the romantic kind) or new financial endeavors might start today. Don’t pass up social opportunities, but also use this wonderful energy to repair any relationships that involve the need for forgiveness, making amends, or a loving touch.
The only true glitch in Mercury’s happy transit through Virgo appears on Monday, August 18. Mercury forms an opposition (180°) to Neptune. Although Mercury in Virgo is usually very comfortable dealing with details of life, this could be a day when we may feel overwhelmed by them. We could feel distracted and have a desire to get lost in daydreams, which can undermine any productivity. Clear communication with others may be challenging today, so it’s best to avoid any serious legal or financial negotiations until tomorrow. Although dealing with details might be challenging, our words will be more compassionate than usual, and it’s a great day for receiving Divine inspiration and for using our imagination.
Finally, on Thursday, August 21, Mercury will trine (120°) Pluto, creating a day filled with practical intelligence. Deep discussions, conducting research, and uncovering hidden resources are all possible benefits of this positive, free-flowing energy. Increased psychological understanding and focused attention are also benefits. Conversations or connections with others could reveal important information that helps us see things more clearly. It’s a good day to make decisions that require patience and strategic analysis.
Overall, this Full Moon in Aquarius is asking us to find ways to use our creative talents to collaborate where most needed. Due to both the Sun and Moon squaring (90°) Saturn, there is a seriousness that comes with the Full Moon. Although we may have grand ideas, Saturn’s presence is going to help us look carefully at our resources of money, time, and energy. It’s a good time to ask questions about what you want to accomplish that allows your unique light to shine in the world . . . and then set priorities to achieve your goals. So you may want to ask yourself, “What are my special talents?” and “Where am I being called to make a difference?” So remember, “We are told to let our light shine. If it does, we won’t need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don’t fire cannons to call attention to their shining – they just shine.” (Dwight L. Moody)
